Psalm 22 Redux

Jesus call out, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” while being crucified on the cross. This is Jesus recalling the verse of Psalm 22 that begins that way but ends with the revelation that his work on earth is complete and Jesus will now be returning to God the Father.

Psalm 22 Redux”

My God, have you forsaken me?

Have you forsaken me?

My time is done and now I plead,

Will you answer me?

Around me all these people,

Can you see their shame?

All around me is evil,

All around me is pain.

Glory, now I see the sun go down

The world is fading fast from me.

The one thing left inside of me

Is life within me yet

Glory, now I see the sun go down

The world has lost its hold on me.

Take my life in ransom now

And let your kingdom come.

My God, you are who sent me here,

You have sent me here,

To hardened hearts who live in sin:

Listen and let me in.

Grace them with your light,

Keep them dear in sight.

Deliver them from darkness, Lord

And join them with your Word

Glory, now I see the sun go down

The world is fading fast from me.

The one thing still inside of me

Is life within me yet

Glory, now I see the sun go down

The world has lost its hold on me.

Take my life in ransom now

And let your kingdom come.

My God, You are to whom I pray,

The one to whom I pray.

In faith and love I testify,

From the ashes, will I rise

Now the echoes fadin’ slowly

As sky and sea come about.

No one is here to sing for me,

No one is left to shout

Glory, now I see the sun go down

The world has lost its hold on me.

Take my life in ransom now

And let your kingdom come.

Glory, now I see the sun anew

Eternity is here with You

No, I am not forsaken-

You are, I Am!
