Mary’s Poem of Praise

The Gospel of Luke tells how Mary celebrates with her cousin, Elizabeth, the coming births of their children. Mary joyfully gives praise to God in the verse known as the Magnificat. As told in the “Songs of the Deliverer,” Mary gives glory and honor to God in this re-imagined “Poem of Praise.”

My soul magnifies the Lord, our King,

With the Son that lives inside of me.

I am blessed by Him for Him I sing.

God delivers grace and glory

To us of simple circumstance.

Trust in His Word and be set free.

Divine wisdom confers the commandments:

Love is our purpose, redemption our fight;

Forsake fortune, fame, vain indulgence.

God proclaims in golden light,

Be honest, helping, kind and true.

Behold our Savior, stay near in His sight.

Be not afraid, God’s love renews.

Tears, troubles desist and die,

True life begins as heaven welcomes you.

With the Holy One, Lord I do magnify.
