Go and make Disciples of all

The book “Songs of the Deliverer” tells the story of Christ re-cast in modern day. The book is a work of fiction but the stories and characters are based on the Gospels of the New Testament. These Reflections are written to highlight the Biblical pericopes.

Referenced in Chapter Twenty-one

Jesus is risen!

He shows himself to the disciples: Mary Magdalene, Peter, John, Thomas, James, Nathaniel, the two men walking from Emmaus, and many others. His resurrection reveals the truth of eternity in God’s kingdom.

Before ascending finally and fully to God, Jesus Christ gave the disciples one last instruction:

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:19)

And so they did. Each in their own way they pronounced the gospel—the good news—to everyone they encounter. The Apostle John tells about Jesus through the written word. In his Gospel, John writes:

Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. (John 20:30 – 31)

Then John ended his Gospel by writing:

Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written. (John 21:25)

This is the message from among the first of the disciples, John: fill the world with the glorious news of Jesus Christ so that by believing people will have life in his name. And this is how we reveal ourselves as disciples of Jesus today.

Go and make disciples of all.
