In the “Songs of the Deliverer” the world exists in a time without Jesus. The people have heard of “one greater to come” but have yet to be witnesses to the truth of God’s divinity. This poem, “Lament of the Lost,” is the voice of the people pleading for the Savior to come to them and show them the way home to God.
A babe in a manger, a miracle birth
The Prince of Salvation, pure joy from the first
Then a king, oh so evil, made war on us all
And claimed as his victim an innocent so small
Alone on this earth with nowhere to go
Orphaned and broken, where is God’s home?
What we miss most is what we all lost
When the Savior was born then died on the cross
But come back again and show us the way
Give us new hope, raise our souls on this day
Bring us your love and shine down true light
Choose us and lead us on this silent night
The time calls us soon,
Our lives almost done
Lord who are in heaven,
Oh, come back again
We followed you down
Buried our souls in the ground
Oh, when will you carry us home?
Oh, when will you carry us home?
